Suborbital Flight Environment Monitor (SFEM) Testing

The Suborbital Flight Environment Monitor (SFEM) is a compact, self-contained payload that monitors and records on-board environmental parameters of interest to investigators during a sRLV flight. All presently conceivable sRLV scientific experiments for NASA’s Flight Opportunities program will require knowledge of the actual flight environment as a function of time during the flight. The compact 2.2 kg package comprised of commercially available instruments is designed to measure and record stand-alone shock, vibration, temperature, pressure, and relative humidity measurements. The information gathered on early sRLV flights to characterize the payload environment will help to guide payload builds and determine the microgravity quality for future investigators.

SFEM-2 flew with Blue Origin as a NASA payload for a third time in May 2019 on New Shepard's P8-NS-11 flight.
