The proposed novelty is the addition of a simple guidance device that would change the area and therefore the total drag of the system. This in turn would permit a unique targeting capability which would make up for the density variations in the upper atmosphere. A GPS-modem transceiver would provide the necessary guidance and locate the system during the terminal flight phase. In order to accelerate the development, a 1/2 scale Advanced Exo-Brake is proposed for ground validation.
