This project is the development of a low temperature (ambient environment) cryocooler. The development of a mechanical cryocooler capable of operating in a cryogenic environment (cryogenic mechanism).
This project is the development of a low ambient temperature cryocooler. Current Stirling cycle cryocoolers are designed to operate in an ambient environment between -40 C and 70 C (mil-spec range).
Our approach will enable a significant reduction in cooler mass and electrical power required to operate infrared sensors in the 35-40 K range, by allowing passive cooling of the cryocooler housing/heat-reject area to < 150 K.
More »Designing and operating a mechanical cooler at cryogenic reject temperature (200 K) brings with it several benefits, in particular, the ability to use more sensitive detectors that have optimal performance at cryogenic temperatures.
