Project Description

T0034-S Vision Navigation System Technology Demonstration (TRNDI)

Program start date is on hold until Space Act Agreement is signed.  Placeholder date of January 2014 is used as placeholder.

This study proposes a Vision Navigation System (VNS) project to perform Flight Demonstration of cross-cutting vision based navigation and hazard avoidance in support of precision planetary landing; and will mature the VNS technology to TRL 6 through flight demonstrations on a suborbital reusable launch vehicle (sRLV). Utilized will be the Stereo Testbed with Inertial Navigation and GPS Receiver Attached to You (STINGRAY). The Guidance Embedded Navigator Integration Environment (GENIE) currently being adapted by Draper to perform closed-loop Autonomous Guidance, Navigation, and Control (AGNC) with a Flight Opportunities sRLV provider will be leveraged to interface with STINGRAY. STINGRAY will be adapted to integrate its vision navigation data as an open loop navigation source into the GENIE navigation system.
