IFOS will leverage off its experience in the turbine engine industry and harsh environment sensors.","benefits":"The proposed test rig sensor suite will assist rigorous ground testing to mitigate the propulsion system risks that are inherent in spaceflight. This technology also has the potential to provide solutions to NASAs challenges in developing lighter weight, higher performance structural materials, miniaturized instrumentation, improved measurement capability, and enhanced platform safety over extended operational lifetimes. The technology will readily extend to any NASA vehicle application where Strucural Health Monitoring (SHM) is desired, including extra-planetary exploration, robotic missions, and human space operations

The proposed work will significantly benefit the commercial space launch industry through the development of advanced fiber optic sensor based ground test systems that enhance chemical and advanced propulsion technology development and certification. Example application focus will be SpaceXs proposed ITS.","releaseStatus":"Released","status":"Completed","viewCount":526,"destinationType":["Mars"],"trlBegin":3,"trlCurrent":4,"trlEnd":4,"lastUpdated":"01/22/26","favorited":false,"detailedFunding":false,"projectContacts":[{"contactId":257030,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Justin","lastName":"Lucas","fullName":"Justin S Lucas","fullNameInverted":"Lucas, Justin S","middleInitial":"S","email":"justin.s.lucas@nasa.gov","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","projectContactRole":"Project_Manager","projectContactId":546895,"projectId":93347,"programContactRolePretty":"","projectContactRolePretty":"Project Manager"},{"contactId":390328,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Richard","lastName":"Black","fullName":"Richard J Black","fullNameInverted":"Black, Richard J","middleInitial":"J","email":"rjb@ifos.com","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","projectContactRole":"Principal_Investigator","projectContactId":546894,"projectId":93347,"programContactRolePretty":"","projectContactRolePretty":"Principal Investigator"}],"programContacts":[{"contactId":206378,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Jason","lastName":"Kessler","fullName":"Jason L Kessler","fullNameInverted":"Kessler, Jason L","middleInitial":"L","email":"jason.l.kessler@nasa.gov","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","programContactRole":"Program_Director","programContactId":143,"programId":73,"programContactRolePretty":"Program Director","projectContactRolePretty":""},{"contactId":62051,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Carlos","lastName":"Torrez","fullName":"Carlos Torrez","fullNameInverted":"Torrez, Carlos","email":"carlos.torrez@nasa.gov","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","programContactRole":"Program_Manager","programContactId":194,"programId":73,"programContactRolePretty":"Program Manager","projectContactRolePretty":""}],"leadOrganization":{"organizationId":2721,"organizationName":"Intelligent Fiber Optic Systems Corporation","organizationType":"Industry","city":"Santa Clara","stateTerritoryId":59,"stateTerritory":{"abbreviation":"CA","country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"name":"California","stateTerritoryId":59,"isTerritory":false},"country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"zipCode":"94054-2927","dunsNumber":"877452664","uei":"HCXHVBD9HKN9","cageCode":"02QJ7","congressionalDistrict":"California 17","projectId":93347,"projectOrganizationId":574717,"organizationRole":"Lead_Organization","canUserEdit":false,"locationEdit":false,"organizationRolePretty":"Lead Organization","organizationTypePretty":"Industry"},"otherOrganizations":[{"organizationId":2721,"organizationName":"Intelligent Fiber Optic Systems Corporation","organizationType":"Industry","city":"Santa Clara","stateTerritoryId":59,"stateTerritory":{"abbreviation":"CA","country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"name":"California","stateTerritoryId":59,"isTerritory":false},"country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"zipCode":"94054-2927","dunsNumber":"877452664","uei":"HCXHVBD9HKN9","cageCode":"02QJ7","congressionalDistrict":"California 17","projectId":93347,"projectOrganizationId":574717,"organizationRole":"Lead_Organization","canUserEdit":false,"locationEdit":false,"organizationRolePretty":"Lead Organization","organizationTypePretty":"Industry"},{"organizationId":4859,"organizationName":"Stennis Space Center","acronym":"SSC","organizationType":"NASA_Center","city":"Stennis Space Center","stateTerritoryId":41,"stateTerritory":{"abbreviation":"MS","country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"name":"Mississippi","stateTerritoryId":41,"isTerritory":false},"country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"zipCode":"39529-6000","projectId":93347,"projectOrganizationId":574718,"organizationRole":"Supporting_Organization","canUserEdit":false,"locationEdit":false,"organizationRolePretty":"Supporting Organization","organizationTypePretty":"NASA Center"}],"primaryTx":{"taxonomyNodeId":11394,"taxonomyRootId":8817,"parentNodeId":11388,"code":"TX13.2.6","title":"Advanced Life Cycle Testing Techniques","description":"This area covers technologies for high-fidelity, useful-life testing of components and systems (regarding fatigue, stress, thermal, fault recovery, performance automation).","exampleTechnologies":"Built-in test enhanced life forecasting;
