Many astrophysics studies currently underway in the&nbsp;Advanced Concepts and Formulation Office, are driving this requirement, with some JWST-follow on concepts requiring onboard signal acquisition and processing in the Terahertz regeime. Future telescopes, broadband spectrometers, radar, radiometers, and lidar digitizers are all instrument classes that are encompassed in this staggering requirement. To address the issue for both near-term and long-term instrumentation, COMP-X is proposed as a broadband signal processing platform that serves as the starting point for development of a common-hardware approach to serve multiple applications in a re-programmable fashion.</p>","benefits":"<p>This project matures several mission concepts by developing COMP-X as a key enabling technology that is both scalable and optimized for the mission in the long-term. COMP-X is an electronics card featuring programmable digital logic and new signal converter technology that will achieve signal generation and capture up to 4 GHz in bandwidth. This card will be the development platform used to prepare the digital logic for detector readout, which will then be migrated to an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) in a larger-future development effort that will leverage SBIR and NASA SMD research resources. The anticipated benefit is a prototyping platform that allows wideband instrument signal processing systems to be developed in preparation for ASIC migration and implementation where there is a definite advantage in overall SWaP for the instrument.</p>","releaseStatus":"Released","status":"Completed","viewCount":676,"destinationType":["Earth","Mars","Others_Inside_the_Solar_System"],"trlBegin":1,"trlCurrent":3,"trlEnd":3,"lastUpdated":"09/28/23","favorited":false,"detailedFunding":false,"projectContacts":[{"contactId":506527,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Michael","lastName":"Johnson","fullName":"Michael A Johnson","fullNameInverted":"Johnson, Michael A","middleInitial":"A","email":"michael.a.johnson@nasa.gov","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","projectContactRole":"Project_Manager","projectContactId":8399,"projectId":93256,"programContactRolePretty":"","projectContactRolePretty":"Project Manager"},{"contactId":38,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Wesley","lastName":"Powell","fullName":"Wesley A Powell","fullNameInverted":"Powell, Wesley A","middleInitial":"A","email":"wesley.a.powell@nasa.gov","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","projectContactRole":"Project_Manager","projectContactId":8386,"projectId":93256,"programContactRolePretty":"","projectContactRolePretty":"Project Manager"},{"contactId":94136,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Damon","lastName":"Bradley","fullName":"Damon C Bradley","fullNameInverted":"Bradley, Damon C","middleInitial":"C","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","projectContactRole":"Principal_Investigator","projectContactId":24971,"projectId":93256,"programContactRolePretty":"","projectContactRolePretty":"Principal Investigator"}],"programContacts":[{"contactId":43382,"canUserEdit":false,"firstName":"Bhanu","lastName":"Sood","fullName":"Bhanu P Sood","fullNameInverted":"Sood, Bhanu P","middleInitial":"P","email":"bhanu.sood@nasa.gov","receiveEmail":"Subscribed_User","programContactRole":"Program_Manager","programContactId":395,"programId":153,"programContactRolePretty":"Program Manager","projectContactRolePretty":""}],"leadOrganization":{"organizationId":4947,"organizationName":"Goddard Space Flight Center","acronym":"GSFC","organizationType":"NASA_Center","city":"Greenbelt","stateTerritoryId":3,"stateTerritory":{"abbreviation":"MD","country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"name":"Maryland","stateTerritoryId":3,"isTerritory":false},"country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"zipCode":"20771","projectId":93256,"projectOrganizationId":10157,"organizationRole":"Lead_Organization","canUserEdit":false,"locationEdit":false,"organizationRolePretty":"Lead Organization","organizationTypePretty":"NASA Center"},"otherOrganizations":[{"organizationId":4947,"organizationName":"Goddard Space Flight Center","acronym":"GSFC","organizationType":"NASA_Center","city":"Greenbelt","stateTerritoryId":3,"stateTerritory":{"abbreviation":"MD","country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"name":"Maryland","stateTerritoryId":3,"isTerritory":false},"country":{"abbreviation":"US","countryId":236,"name":"United States"},"countryId":236,"zipCode":"20771","projectId":93256,"projectOrganizationId":10157,"organizationRole":"Lead_Organization","canUserEdit":false,"locationEdit":false,"organizationRolePretty":"Lead Organization","organizationTypePretty":"NASA Center"}],"primaryTx":{"taxonomyNodeId":11220,"taxonomyRootId":8817,"parentNodeId":11216,"code":"TX08.1.4","title":"Microwave, Millimeter Waves, and Submillimeter Waves","description":"Microwave and radio transmitter and receiver component technologies for the 30 kHz to 10 THz range include integrated radar transmitter/receiver (T/R) modules and integrated radiometer receivers, active microwave instruments (radar), passive radiometers (microwave and far infrared), and crosscutting technologies such as radiation-hardened electronics.","exampleTechnologies":"Laser heterodyne and gas correlation radiometers, low noise receivers, transmit/receive modules, couplers/combiners, isolators, amplifiers, filters, antennas, waveguide components","level":3,"hasChildren":false,"selected":false,"isPrimary":true,"hasInteriorContent":true},"primaryTxTree":[[{"taxonomyNodeId":11215,"taxonomyRootId":8817,"code":"TX08","title":"Sensors and Instruments","level":1,"hasChildren":true,"selected":false,"hasInteriorContent":true},{"taxonomyNodeId":11216,"taxonomyRootId":8817,"parentNodeId":11215,"code":"TX08.1","title":"Remote Sensing Instruments and Sensors","description":"Remote sensing instruments and sensors include components, sensors, and instruments that are sensitive to electromagnetic radiation; particles (charged, neutral, dust); electromagnetic fields, both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC); acoustic energy; seismic energy; and whatever physical phenomenology the science requires.
